JAHANABAD BUDDHA

You can climb up to the Buddha by crossing the river, then taking a steep path along which you will enjoy a superb view over the rice fields, and the orchards of the surrounding valley. 4 meters high, this Buddha in a lotus position was carved in stone in the 7th century AD, and is extremely well preserved. In 2007, the Taliban tried to destroy it by placing explosives on the head and shoulders. A part of the face had been damaged, but thanks to the perseverance of the Italian archaeological mission in Pakistan, it has been completely restored.
