Join us in Bodnath and Swayambunath to celebrate the Tibetan New Year. On the program: lama parades, pujas and prayer flags.
Tibetan New Year coincides with the first day of the Lunar New Year. Its date is chosen according to Tibetan astrology. In the Kathmandu valley, the festival is in full swing in Swayambhunath and Bodnath. Colourful crowds flock to these holy places to watch the llamas parade in full dress and fuel the bonfires. One also comes to admire the dances and the statuettes of gods carved in clay. Also on the programme: pujas (offering rites), portraits of the Dalai Lama and prayer flags in profusion.
