It's the great night of Shiva, a very popular god in Nepal. A spectacular festival in Pashupatinath, where many sadhus come together.
Every year, in February or March depending on the lunar calendar, Shiva's birthday is celebrated with great pomp in the temples dedicated to Nepal's most popular deity. It is in Pashupatinath that the festivities are the most spectacular. An exceptional concentration of sâdhus from all over Nepal and India gather there to honour the god Shiva. The "renouncers", dressed in simple loincloths or completely naked, walk around with their bodies covered in ashes, while others bathe in the sacred waters of the Bagmati.
