The Maldives celebrates the day it officially converted to Islam, which is the first day of the month of Rabi' al-thani.
In 1153, the Moroccan hafiz (one who knows the Koran by heart) Abul Barakat landed in the Maldives, whose religion was Buddhism. When he met King Sri Tribuvana Aditiya, he set about converting him. After several months of perseverance, the king converted and sent missionaries to all the local islands to follow him. This day is commemorated on the first day of the fourth lunar month, which explains the floating date. On this occasion, Maldivians enjoy a day off.
