Independence Day or "Jamhuri Day" remains an important annual event for Kenya and very officially celebrated.

Independence Day or "Jamhuri Day" ("republic" in Swahili) is a national holiday celebrated every year on December 12. Parades and popular demonstrations take place all over Kenya, but particularly in Nairobi, to celebrate Kenya's independence from the British on December 12, 1963 (a constitutional amendment made Kenya a single, indivisible republic on December 12, 1964). It's a festive day, but also an official one, with a much-listened-to presidential address.
