No surprises when it comes to pubs and nightclubs: alacrity is generally at its peak on weekend nights.
To be booked
For theater performances, concerts, dance shows and other festivals, booking is by no means compulsory. However, it is highly recommended to avoid any disappointment on the big day... As far as sporting events (soccer, rugby...) are concerned, with the exception of the big names that may be sold out, you should be able to attend most matches without booking in advance...
Night transport
At night, especially when leaving Kampala's clubs and bars, you can choose between VTC (Uber, SafeCar), cab(special hire) or boda-boda. Be extremely careful if you opt for the latter. Although it's not a common occurrence, some tourists have been robbed by motorcyclists under the cover of darkness... To avoid such mishaps, don't hesitate to compile the telephone numbers of trustworthy riders you've met during your stay. You'll be able to draw on your list at a moment's notice. Age restrictions
The sale of alcohol to minors (under 18) is prohibited in all drinking establishments. To verify your age, you may be asked to show proof of identity at the entrance to some nightclubs.
Smokers
Smoking is officially prohibited in bars, discotheques and entertainment venues. Offenders face up to two months' imprisonment or a US$80 fine. Nevertheless, in posh clubs and cafés - where checks are infrequent - the law is sometimes blithely circumvented...
