The victory over fascism is celebrated every year in Bishkek and in the villages with the same fervour as in the former USSR.
In the former Soviet Union, victory over fascism is celebrated on May 9. Stalin wanted his own German surrender, so he signed a separate treaty the day after the Allies and Germans signed May 8, 1945. Many Kyrgyz, Uzbeks and Kazakhs took part in the fighting, and the victory of the "Great Patriotic War" is one of the most important national events. Rare veterans and aksakal gather around monuments all over the country, and a parade is held in Bishkek.
