Practical information : Going out Uzbekistan
Timetable
Cities fall asleep relatively early, around 11pm, even though discos, bars and pubs are part of the capital's nightlife. Previously, the hours stretched late into the night and even into the early hours of the morning. The situation changed after a tragic accident in one of the clubs, which is why the government introduced a law on nightclubs and opening hours: all clubs are closed after 11pm.
To be booked
Of course, the few attractions are quickly overcrowded, especially during the peak tourist season. Remember to book your tickets in advance for the opera in Tashkent or the folk show at the Nadir Divanbeg madrasah in Bukhara.
Night transport
Public transportation is scarce at night, but you will have no trouble finding cabs at any time of day. Nightly fares should be negotiated before you get in the car.
Age restrictions
For the record, Halloween parties and masquerade costume are forbidden in Uzbekistan. What's more, there are no gay-friendly clubs, as homosexuality is punishable by law.
What's very local
Uzbekistan is an oriental country with its own traditions and preferences. Many bars and restaurants will offer you a hookah, not to mention specialized shisha bars.
Restaurants offering live music accompanied by Uzbek dancers in oriental costumes and national musical instruments. Here you'll find performance programs featuring local artists and oriental dances.
Karaoke bars are a favorite pastime for many Uzbeks. Most clubs and bars offer comfortable common rooms or VIP booths.
Discotheques impose a dress code.
In Tashkent, Sharaf Rashidov Street has taken over from the old "Broadway" with its karaoke stalls, cafés, funfair games and fairground lights, making it a popular place for weekend family outings. The busiest area is between the Kosmonavtlar and Mustaqillik metro stations.
