At the time when Ibrahim was preparing to plant a knife in the heart of his son Ishmael, God placed a ram instead of Ishmael and spared him life. This feast is celebrated throughout the Muslim world and families sacrifice a sheep. The wealthiest will kill a goat, a cow or even a camel. Tradition means that one third of the meat is given to its neighbours and another third to the poor.
