Celebrated every year, this date marks the end of Communist domination of Kazakhstan. Given the excellent relations between Kazakhstan and Russia, and the large number of Russians still living in Kazakhstan, this celebration has remained relatively low-key, particularly in the north of the country. But Astana's move away from Moscow in 2022 could change all that, and revive the celebrations around this date.
