Children's Day takes place on May 5 and marks the end of Golden Week, a week in which several holidays follow one another. Although we talk about children today, the holiday originally celebrated only little boys. On May 5, cloth carp are hung in the windows of houses where a child resides. This tradition comes from a Chinese legend according to which only carp managed to pass through the Dragon Gate to become dragons themselves. The black carp represents the father, the red one the mother and the last one, blue, the child.
