The religious festival of Eid el Fitr marks the breaking of the fast of the month of Ramadan. It is celebrated on the first day of the month of Shawwal. It is also sometimes called Eid as-Seghir, "the small festival", as opposed to Eid el-Kebir, "the big festival". In Kosovo, it is the occasion to cook and taste the baklavas, small oriental pastries with nuts and honey (and oil), heritage of the Ottoman presence in the region.
