From the airport to the city centre Kosovo
The country's only airport is 18 km southwest of the centre of Pristina. There is a bus service to the bus station once an hour (line 1A, fare €3). Taxi fare to the city centre is €15-20.
Arrival by train Kosovo
The country's main railway station is in Fushë Kosova/Kosovo Polje, 7 km west of Pristina. But the three lines of the national company Trainkos(www.trainkos.com) pass through Pristina. This same company provides a daily connection between Pristina and Skopje (Northern Macedonia): duration 2h40, fare 5 €. It is also possible to arrive by train in Kosovo via Serbia. The Serbian company Železnice Srbije(www.zeleznicesrbije.com) provides two daily connections between Kraljevo (Serbia) and Mitrovica-Nord (Northern Kosovo): duration 3h30, fare 442 RSD (3,80 €). Please note that since the Covid-19 crisis, connections with Serbia and Northern Macedonia may be suspended.
Public transport Kosovo
The bus is the easiest way to travel in Kosovo. About ten different companies provide connections between major cities at very low prices (about 4 € to cross the country). There are also frequent connections with Serbia and Northern Macedonia and other, less frequent, connections with Albania, Montenegro, Germany or Switzerland. Tickets can be purchased either at the bus station (major cities) or directly on the bus. In Pristina, the urban transport company Trafiku Urban(trafikurban-pr.com) has 16 lines and about 100 buses. But due to traffic jams, timetables are not always reliable. Tickets (€0.40) can be bought either on the bus or at kiosks bearing the "Trafiku Urban" logo. The monthly pass costs €14 (to be bought at the kiosk).
Bike, scooters & co Kosovo
Two-wheelers (bicycles, scooters, motorbikes...) should be avoided in Pristina, one of the most dangerous cities in Europe in terms of traffic accidents. On the rest of the road network, it is advisable to be careful. But it is possible to rent mountain bikes near the Germia park (suburb of Pristina) and in the two national parks, especially the Albanian Alps (western Kosovo) which is the best organized.
With a driver Kosovo
From the airport, it is possible to reach all major cities in the country by taxi for less than €60 (about €45 for Prizren, for example). Most car rental companies offer a chauffeur-driven service. In this case, count about 100 €/day on the territory of Kosovo, plus meals and accommodation for the driver
By car Kosovo
A car is not essential to visit most of the country's cities and monuments, including the medieval Serbian Orthodox monasteries listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. A bus is sufficient. On the other hand, it is desirable to be motorized to discover the two national parks and some beautiful mountainous areas such as the Gora (Dragaš/Dragash region), the Mokra Gora (Zubin Potok region) or the Kopaonik Mountains (Leposavić/Leposaviq region). Care should be taken and driving at night should be avoided. Car rentals are generally cheap except in the peak summer season and fuel prices are 30% cheaper than in France. Driving in Pristina is not recommended due to traffic jams and frequent accidents. If you must, try to take a hotel with parking and/or outside the city (Gračanica/Graçanica is a good alternative, 10 km south of Pristina). Otherwise, the entire city centre of the capital is now classified as "zone 1" with a parking fee of €8/day(prishtinaparking.net). There are guarded car parks for about €10/day. In other cities, parking fees are lower and most hotels have parking facilities. Finally, if you want to come to Kosovo with your own vehicle, you have to pay an insurance of about 15 € for 15 days at the border post (about 80 € if it is a rented vehicle).
Accessibility Kosovo
Facilities for people with reduced mobility or for pushchairs are still underdeveloped in the country. This applies to public transport, roads, places of interest and restaurants. However, hotels are beginning to be more sensitive to this issue. Some hotels now have everything they need to accommodate wheelchair travellers: parking, lifts, rooms. This is a start.
