This festival marks the official end of Chinese New Year celebrations. Taiwanese throw lanterns into the sky.
Taiwanese people have been celebrating the Lantern Festival since the Han Dynasty (206 BC to 220) by parading through the streets carrying paper and wooden lanterns. Held on the 15thday of the Lunar New Year (February 12, 2025), this festival officially closes the New Year festivities. In the past, the souls of visiting ancestors were taken back to the other world, symbolized by lanterns lit all over the country (today, the Lantern Festival is also known as China's Valentine's Day).
