Bars open at 5:30 pm and generally close around 10 pm, the clubs take over. There are not many of them on the island but there are enough to have fun and find an atmosphere that suits you. If the bars are often widely frequented by locals as well as metropolitans settled in Mayotte, the nightclubs are more discreet and intimate. This advice is valid everywhere, but perhaps even more so in Mayotte: girls, avoid going to and leaving nightclubs alone. The roads and parking lots are not very well lit and the night meetings are not always the best.
Budget & Tips
Take advantage of happy hours to get discounts on drinks and enjoy the sunset. Most nightclubs or bars are free for girls until a certain time or a drink is offered with the purchase of the entrance ticket. Count between 10 and 20 € for the paying clubs.
To be booked
Except for symbolic dates (Valentine's Day, public holidays...), no need to book in Mayotte. People are divided between the different places, you will always have a table available somewhere.
Night transport
The barges continue until late at night but only once an hour. Last departure from Mamoudzou is at 12:30am on weekdays and Sundays, and 3:30am on Friday, Saturday and the eve of public holidays. Taxis are also hard to come by at night, so if you're going to be late, make arrangements with a taxi you know and whose number you already have.
Age restrictions
The legislation is the same as in mainland France, note that you are in a Muslim department, the relationship to alcohol is different.
What's very local
The locals often go to the dance with their best: evening dresses, heels and a little shirt. If you want to go unnoticed, avoid shorts and flip-flops in nightclubs.
Smokers
The legislation is the same as in mainland France, respect the non-smokers in public places.
