VINI, a subsidiary of the OPT, was the only local operator until little. The SFR and Bouygues networks have no agreements with him.
Network. On Tahiti it works everywhere except inside the island, on the uninhabited part of the peninsula and some portions of the east coast. In the islands it is gradually spreading, as a priority in the most populated islands of course. But the network often goes less well, and the islands are not covered in full, even though the network is now very extensive. Attention, in some remote corners of an island, the connection no longer passes.
The Vini network works with the GSM 900 MHz standard, that is, the one we use in metropolitan France. Your phone will therefore work very well here, provided you can change your SIM card (chip). Most often, phones sold for nothing or almost with subscription are coded to accept only the SIM card, corresponding to your subscription: they are "SIM-lockés". For "dé-locker", simply ask for this code to your Customer service, which usually provides it after some subscription time. The second solution: you bought your phone apart, and it is not'SIM-locké ', in which case the problem does not arise. It is better to check before the departure, rather than take a phone that does not work.
Formulas. The Vini formulas most suited to tourists if you already have a telephone are the prepaid offers Vini Card Classic or Vinicard Xtra (if you do not, there is also the prepaid pack option with telephone); other traditional subscription formulas offered to residents are equally valid, but require a minimum of six months'subscription. Residents have every interest in connecting to the site (www.vini.pf) to find out about Vini's latest proposals.
