KALTA MINOR, OR "SHORT MINARET."

Located outside madrasas, at the corner of its facade, Kalta Minor was to be the highest minaret in the Muslim world, culminating at 70 m, height that was never reached, the work having been abandoned after the death of the khan while the minaret reached just 29 metres. According to the legend, the Khan of Bukhara, learning the project of his rival of Uzs and unable to live in the shadow of a minaret larger than Kalon minaret (it was said that when it was finished, one could see Bukhara from his summit), unleashed to remove the architect to bring up an even greater minaret in his city. What is learned, and so that his knowledge does not benefit anyone else, the episode of Uzs decided to assassinate the architect as soon as his work finished. The lion of Bukhara ripens the same project, the architect ended up fleeing without asking for his rest, and the minaret remained truncated forever. So the "short minaret" is only 26 m away, the diameter of its base measuring 14 m, and it is completely and superbly decorated with green and blue majolica in the so particular green of Uzs. You can't get there because the place is closed to tourists, but you can try your luck with hotel staff.
