Saint John's Day, Noche de San Juan, is a very important holiday. On June 24, Puerto Ricans celebrate the patron saint of the island.
In every city, especially in San Juan, the inhabitants celebrate the patron saint of the island for several days. The feast of St. John or Noche de San Juan is important for the Puerto Ricans. On the night of June 23 to 24, at midnight, it is customary to walk backwards three times towards the sea, or better yet, for those who are more fit, to do three, nine or twelve dives on their backs, in order to rid life of all negativity and wish each other good luck for the next twelve months. A ritual that Puerto Ricans do not fail to perform.
