Practical information : Move & Laze around Channel Islands
Budget & Tips
Many activities revolve around the sea and beaches (surfing, swimming, windsurfing, sailing...), but not only! Starting from Saint-Hélier, and in Jersey in general, you'll be spoilt for choice between walking along coastal paths, cycling, golf, pond fishing or the more traditional croquet... While there are plenty of activities to choose from, many of them cost nothing. So let's get swimming, walking and sunbathing!
What's very local
On Sundays, put on your walking shoes and hit the island's trails (or hop on a bike), and enjoy a family picnic on the beach as soon as the sun comes out.
Your documents please
If life is rather sweet on the archipelago, tourism providers will still ask you to prove your identity: don't forget your passport! Don't forget your passport, as well as your driver's license when you pick up your rental car, your scooter, or even your bicycle, electric or mechanical. Divers, don't forget to bring your diving card if you want to go beyond the baptism!
To be booked
In high season, and especially during European school vacations, it's best to book your excursions in advance. You can never be too careful! For all activities, including the popular sand yachting sessions and boat tours, it's best to reserve your place two or three weeks before your arrival. It would be a shame to miss out!
Tourist traps
In a small country like the Channel Islands, where tourism is the mainstay of life, the vast majority of service providers are very serious. Just beware of touts offering excursions, who may or may not be part of a genuine, well-established agency.
