INFORMATIONS
Others chose to tour the island… at the bottom of the cliffs. Indeed, some are swimming a few fathoms away from the cliffs and beaches. We will see plaques commemorating these exploits, sometimes made by women and adolescents, at the entrance to Saint Catherine Bay jetty, or next to the starting point of the Puddle Duck (towards the castle Elisabeth) in Saint-Hélier. The first inhabitant of the islands to realize this little feat was Denize Le Pennec, who, in 1969, had 21 hours to tour Jersey. 3 years ago, she had crossed the Channel.
As a result of these exploits, the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club was created in 1974. Some of its members are swimming for pleasure, others take seriously to cross the Channel or turn around the island. INFORMATION: tel (01534) 853 282 www.jerseyseaswims.org - [email protected]
