This Serbian public service broadcasting group has a long history, since Radio Belgrade began broadcasting in 1929. On October 5, 2000, the same RTS building was ransacked during the riots against Slobodan Milošević, and was one of the instruments to end the regime. Today, RTS is a member of the European Broadcasting Union.

It is considered by the Serbian opposition as a symbol of the hegemonic control of power over the media.
