Timetable

Stores are generally open from 10am to 6pm. An evening event is scheduled on Thursdays in Amsterdam, Utrecht and The Hague, and on Fridays in Rotterdam.

Most stores are also open on Sundays, often from 11am to 5pm.

Budget & Tips

In some markets, such as the Noordermarkt in Amsterdam, you can find cheap clothing.

Sales

Sale periods are not regulated, so bargains can be had almost all the time. You can even take advantage of them before Christmas, because the big holiday here is St. Nicholas Day, which takes place at the beginning of December. There are no rules when it comes to discounts: sometimes it's directly 50%, sometimes it's 30%.

Black Friday also exists and is very popular.

What's very local

The museum stores are a mine of inspiration, and you'll find some superb typical gifts.

Don't forget to bring back a few culinary specialties: typical cheeses, chocolate chips, drops (licorice) and waffles... You'll find gourmet products in supermarkets and grocery stores.

Tourist traps

We're not big fans of flower markets and the various plastic souvenirs they sell.
