Mayis not only Labour Day but also the anniversary of Autonomy now celebrated on June 21st.
May 1st is not only Labour Day (trade union parade in Nuuk) but also the anniversary of Autonomy. On 1 May 1979, Greenland became autonomous as part of the community with Denmark. The former National Council was abolished and replaced by a national government and parliament, whose competence extends to the social, educational and cultural fields. The Danish Parliament has two Greenlandic members. However, you should know that autonomy is now celebrated on June 21 during the solstice.
