Time difference Greenland
In March 2023, the country voted to stop changing time. Greenland is now at GMT-3, i.e. there is a 3-hour time difference all year round: when it's 2pm in Paris, it's 11am in Nuuk. The only exception is the Thule base, which is on GMT-4.
Opening hours Greenland
To see / To do Greenland
While most of your visits will be outdoors, discovering Greenland's magnificent nature, some museums, craft workshops and institutes are well worth a visit during your stay. These are usually open (practically) every day during the high season, or by appointment. It's best to find out in advance, so you don't end up with a closed door. Public holidays include New Year's Day (December 31st to January1st ), Epiphany (January 6th), Easter, the Great Day of Prayer (variable date on a Friday in May or April), Labor Day (May1st ), Ascension Day, Whit Monday, Bastille Day (June 21st) and Christmas (December 23rd to 26th).
Enjoying yourself Greenland
Food stores are generally open weekdays from 10am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and close earlier on weekends. Opening hours in villages are often not respected, and when there's only one shop, it's usually open every day, even on Sundays. However, don't worry, it's always possible to make yourself understood and ask to open if necessary. We won't let you starve!
Restaurants, meanwhile, are generally open every day during the high season, and at varying times in winter. Find out more.
Take a break Greenland
You won't find as extensive a bar culture in Greenland as in France or elsewhere. The main ones are to be found in major towns like Narsaq (which has its own brewery, called QajaQ!), Nuuk, Sisimiut and Ilulissat. Some of them attract heavy drinkers and have a rather bad reputation. Ask directly on site for opening times.
(To) please yourself Greenland
Stores are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and sometimes on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., but please ask directly on site. Some are only open in high season.
Get out Greenland
There are hardly any nightclubs or pubs with live music in Greenland outside the capital or Ilulissat during the summer months. However, the cultural centers of Nuuk and Sisimiut offer a year-round selection of films, music, theater and dance performances. For opening times and days, which vary greatly according to the season, please enquire directly on site.
