Privatized in 2017, the Greek national rail network is far from covering the entire country, and many major cities no longer even have a station, especially in the west of the country. The trains themselves are not particularly comfortable and are often slow (50 km/h on average), with the exception of the Athens-Thessaloniki express. Be aware that the country's archaeological sites, which attract so many tourists, are very poorly served, so buses are essential. However, rail travel is very inexpensive in Greece.
