Second Greek national holiday in memory of the "No" vote against Mussolini on October 28, 1940.
No Day (Επέτειος του Όχι/Epetios tou Ochi) is Greece's second national holiday, after March 25. It marks the memory of October 28, 1940, when dictator Ioannis Metaxas replied (in essence) "no" to Mussolini's ultimatum to make Greece a protectorate. Fierce resistance began against the Italians (defeated in Epirus) and continued after the lightning German invasion of the Balkans in April 1941.
