Greece's biggest religious festival, whose date varies from year to year, is the occasion for several days of celebration and meditation. On the program: a week in slow motion, punctuated by religious celebrations including the epitaphios procession on Friday and mass on Saturday evening, followed by a grand meal and lamayiritsa (a giblet soup). Patmos is a particularly interesting place to visit, where the most solemn celebrations are held, including a reproduction of the Last Supper and the washing of feet on Holy Thursday.
