The Dormition of the Virgin celebrates, among the Orthodox, what the Catholics call the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It is one of the most important feasts for the Greek Orthodox. On August 15, almost half of Greece is celebrating, since "Maria", "Panagiotis" or "Panagiota" are very common names. Panigyria, with traditional music and dances, are organized everywhere. But each region promises its own celebration, with panigyria organized wherever a church or a monastery is dedicated to the Virgin, which is almost everywhere.
