While the Caldea thermal spa is undoubtedly the star in Andorra, many wellness hotels dot the Principality. In other words, there is no shortage of options to take care of yourself, accessible to all budgets. Not to mention the countless yoga, fitness, toning gym and other wellness workshops held throughout the Principality
Caldea, a major thermal spa
Designed by architect Jean Michel Ruols and opened in 1994, the largest thermal spa in southern Europe, with its avant-garde architecture and elements linked to the mineral world, is located in Escaldes-Engordany and is called Caldea. If the resort enjoys an international reputation and can justify a stay in the Principality on its own, it is certainly for its 30,000 m² entirely dedicated to well-being, but also for its vast range of treatments. Original and innovative, combining health, well-being and entertainment, Caldea's thermal spa uses water that gushes naturally at 70°C, particularly rich in sulphur and other minerals such as sodium, sulphate and calcium, making it the ideal ingredient for treating and soothing all kinds of pain. It has healing, decongestant and anti-allergic properties.
The Caldea complex is divided into four sets of facilities (Thermoludique, Origens, Likids and Inúu). The first is the Thermal Playground where, in addition to a huge indoor thermal water lagoon (32-34°C), the benefits of water are distilled in all its forms (ice, steam, cold water and hot water under pressure) in an entertaining atmosphere that suits the whole family. There is also all the equipment for fitness and aquamassage, but also saunas with relaxing light or Wood's light with negative ions, Indo-Roman, Icelandic and Sirocco baths, as well as an outdoor area with a view of the mountain.
Caldea's second space, called Origins, is dedicated to filling you up with energy. There are a multitude of thematic sensory pools such as the amazing and exfoliating grapefruit bath, but also Aztec baths whose stones stimulate the plantar arch and improve circulation. We will take this invigorating experience to the hammams and saunas, before staying in the whirlpools installed outside, in the heart of nature!
Espace Inúu for silence, Likids for children
Adjacent to the Caldea spa facilities, the new Inúu centre puts the individual at the centre of its care, while its neighbour offers care more for groups of friends, families and couples. The care offer is personalised and the experience is provided in a calm and beneficial atmosphere where time no longer counts. Inúu houses two lagoons - one inside, one outside - where the thermal water spreads via a plethora of waterfalls, swan necks, massaging water jets working on all parts of the body and other bubbling seats. In addition, there is a sports hall equipped with all the necessary equipment to tone the body, individual treatment rooms where relaxing massages are given, but also a relaxation area equipped with heated deckchairs. In other words, you never leave the Inúu as you entered it!
Finally, for parents who would like to introduce their children to the joys of thermal baths, let us note here that Caldea has recently expanded its playful offer by offering a relaxation area dedicated to children from 3 to 8 years old: LIKIDS is a spa perfectly suited to the youngest, combining entertainment and relaxation. Guided by wellness professionals, they will be introduced, through a range of fun activities, to the soothing properties of thermal waters, splashing around in whirlpools and shallow water bodies. Let go and let yourself be pampered in Andorra, it's a holiday!
In a future post, we will come back to the many good deals that the Principality has to offer
