On the day of the Virgin of Meritxell, the patron saint of the valleys, a striking religious fervour takes hold of the sanctuary.
Thousands of faithful go to the sanctuary of Meritxell on this day: the Virgin of Meritxell is in fact the patron saint of Andorra. This festival, celebrated since 1873, is the most important in the Principality. Numerous activities are organised, including the Dawn mass, the Eucharist for young people, the solemn mass in honour of the patron saint celebrated by the bishop of Urgell, the sacred song to the Virgin and the Meritxell concert by the little singers. An impressive religious gathering!
