Enjoying yourself Andorra
Timetable Andorra
Restaurants in Andorra are generally open every day, serving lunch and dinner. Lunch is served between 1:30pm/14pm and 3pm, or even 4pm, while in the evening, restaurants and bordes are open from 7pm/20pm to 11pm.
Budget & Tips Andorra
There's something for everyone in Andorra: from the small toda la vida serving tapas and snacks, or the budget burger and pizza restaurant (you can usually get by for €10/15), to gastro restaurants with prices approaching €100 (wine included). As for bordes and other traditional restaurants, you can generally get by for €30/40.
What costs extra Andorra
It's always a good idea to tip waiters and waitresses in restaurants, but you don't have to. Also, although most menus advertise it, be sure to check the price of what you order: the 4.5% IGI tax is not always taken into account.
Kids Andorra
Children are generally welcome in Andorra's restaurants, and it's not uncommon to find an à la carte menu for the little ones. Some hotels, however, specialize in an adult-only clientele.
Smokers Andorra
Although smoking is forbidden in restaurants, it is generally tolerated on the terrace as long as you don't get in the way of others. The easiest way to find out is to ask the restaurant staff.
Tourist traps Andorra
Andorra has few, if any, restaurant hawkers, and some addresses, particularly in the capital's busy shopping streets, are not necessarily the best places to sample Andorra's typical specialties. You'll be better off in the outlying bordes .
Take a break Andorra
Timetable Andorra
Bakeries and cafeterias usually open around 7am and stay open continuously until around 8pm. However, there are no hard and fast rules here and to avoid going out of your way, it's best to make a quick phone call. Bars usually open around 6-7pm and close around 2am, or even later for some, especially in season and on the Pas de la Case side
Budget & Tips Andorra
The price of gourmet breaks and alcoholic beverages (especially beers, in the few Irish pubs in the principality) is generally lower than in France
What's very local Andorra
Andorra grows vines, mainly Alsatian varieties because of their ability to acclimatize, and produces some wines in small quantities (and therefore rather expensive!). On the other hand, it is quite easy to find ratassia, a local nut liquor.
Kids Andorra
Children are generally accepted everywhere where a bar permit is not in effect. However, they can sometimes be accepted on the terrace of a bar until early evening.
Smokers Andorra
While smoking is prohibited in gourmet shops, cafés and bars, smokers are generally welcome on the terraces of these establishments.
