Practical information : Move & Laze around Austria
Budget & Tips
The hiking trails through the Viennese forests or in the mountain regions are open to everyone without an entrance fee! This means hours and hours of unrestricted sporting activity. You can also cycle on marked routes, swim in lakes and rivers, climb on outdoor climbing routes. Austria is a great resource for a multitude of free outdoor activities.
Some ski resorts in the Tyrol, for example, offer a 20% discount on Mondays for girls, Wednesdays for students, Thursdays for people over 60 and Fridays for men.
What's very local
The people of Vienna bathe in the Danube just a stone's throw from the city centre, for example from the courtyard of the small café in Hundertwasser's art house, where an association has installed free cabins. Another peculiarity: Austrians, even adults, love to go sledding!
Your documents please
To practice certain sports activities during a supervised stay, you will sometimes have to provide proof that you are insured for this practice, or even a medical certificate indicating that you have no contraindication to this or that practice.
To be booked
You will not be able to go rafting, visit caves, or even do some high mountain runs or ice climbing without being accompanied by an accredited professional. For this you will need to contact the guide companies or the tourist booking organisations in the resorts
