The festivities last five weeks during which masked balls, processions and cavalcades delight young and old alike.
Like their German and Belgian neighbours, Luxembourgers love to celebrate carnival. The festivities last five weeks during which masked balls, processions and cavalcades delight young and old alike. Carnival Sunday and Carnival Monday (Fuessonndeg and Fuesméindeg) are undoubtedly the most festive days. The best known cavalcades are those of Diekirch, Schifflange, Esch-sur-Alzette, Remich and Pétange. Three other localities are particularly famous for their masked balls: Echternach, Vianden and Wormeldange.
