Stores open from 9am to 12:30pm and from 3:30pm to 7:30pm. In the big cities, many stores are open every day and on Sundays. Some streets in Rome and Milan are known for their luxury brands and are very busy all year round.

Budget & Tips

From luxury to cheap, you will find everything! For luxury stores, the Fashion Quadrilateral in Milan and the area around Piazza di Spagna in Rome are famous. There are also many outlets that offer great brands at discount prices. Finally, you will find many markets with cheap clothes and thrift shops. Among the most famous are Porta Portese in Rome and the Gran Balon in Turin.

Sales

In most major Italian cities, the winter sales begin in early January and end in early March. The summer sales in Italy usually start on the first Saturday of July and end around mid-August. The dates vary by region.

What's very local

If we all love mozzarella or burrata, we still advise you to taste them fresh, on the spot. On the other hand, cheeses such as parmesan, pecorino or grana padano are less sensitive to transportation. To stock up, bet on markets, for example those of the Coldiretti ̶ association dedicated to Italian agriculture ̶ or go directly to the caseifici . As for wines and liquors, it all depends on the region you visit. Among the great classics: lambrusco from the Po Valley, Tuscan chianti, prosecco from the Veneto and limoncello from the Amalfi Coast. Coffee lovers will also want to bring back a mocha coffee maker, essential for a strong and tasty Italian coffee. Finally, for a non-perishable souvenir, there is a wealth of handicrafts in the country (Tuscan leather, Murano glassware, Capodimonte porcelain...): each region has its own speciality.

As everywhere, be careful: counterfeits are sometimes sold on the markets and in the tourist streets.
