From the airport to the city centre Cyprus
Larnaka and Paphos airports are well served by bus to the city center and major cities in the south. In the northern part, Ercan airport (connections only with Turkey) also has a shuttle bus system.
Arrival by boat Cyprus
Cheap ferries between Piraeus (Greece) and Limassol part of the year. And ferries between Turkey and the ports of Kyrenia and Famagusta all year round.
Public transport Cyprus
The southern part of the country has a very good bus network organised in five major companies in the districts of Nicosia, Limassol, Paphos, Larnaka and Agia Napa which serve both city centres and villages. In the northern part of the country, a fleet of private minibuses can also be used to go almost everywhere.
Bike, scooters & co Cyprus
Before renting a two-wheeler, be aware that helmets are compulsory despite the heat, and that only one person over the age of 12 is allowed to sit behind the driver. Motorcycles and scooters are ideal for exploring the island. Nicosia's old town and the hills near the coast are ideal for exploring by bike. Mountain bikes are available for hire in all major towns. What's more, even if the coast is very touristy, it's often just a matter of 4 or 5 km inland to be in the middle of nature.
By car Cyprus
Roads have improved considerably in recent years. On the whole, drivers are fairly cautious, especially in town. The legal limit for drinking and driving is 0.49 g/l blood or 0.22 mg/l breath. But it's zero grams for rental cars in the northern part. There are no tolls in Cyprus.
And don't forget that in Cyprus, as in the UK, traffic drives on the left and steering wheels are on the right. This takes a little getting used to.
Accessibility Cyprus
While it's easy to cross from one side to the other, not all rental cars can cross the green line. You'll either have to rent another vehicle, take out additional insurance or use another means of transport on the other side.
Tourist traps Cyprus
Cypriots are friendly and welcoming. However, beware of the extra costs in some areas, especially (as everywhere else in the world) with regard to taxis. Watch the meters or ask for an estimate of the fare before you leave.
