This family holiday celebrates the good harvests of the past year and commemorates the Pilgrim Fathers' Thanksgiving of 1621.
This festival, which is primarily a family affair, celebrates the good harvests of the past year and commemorates the Pilgrim Fathers' Thanksgiving of 1621. The Pilgrims came from England on the Mayflower in 1620 and were able to survive their first harsh winter with the help of the Wampanoags. In the fall of 1621, the harvest was good and the Pilgrims held a feast to express their gratitude to the Native Americans and to God. Wild game, corn and turkey were eaten, giving birth to the tradition of Thanksgiving, which became a holiday in 1863.
