Timetable
With 35,000 museums, the United States has something for everyone. For a quiet visit, choose the beginning of the week, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, or any day of the week between September and February. From mid-March to the end of July, the number of visitors reaches records. And Saturdays are busy all year long! In some remote states, museums, houses and historic sites are closed from January to the end of May, and even close the day after Halloween for 6 months. Everything only reopens at the end of May, for the Memorial Day weekend.
Budget & Tips
Some museums are free every day (such as the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, D.C. or the Museum of the American Indian in Manhattan), while others offer free admission only on specific days or times, often the first Saturday of the month.
Main events
Two major holidays dethrone all others for Americans: the 4th of July, the national holiday of the United States, with patriotic celebrations and festivities all over the country, and Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November, a very important family holiday with a stuffed turkey.
Smokers
Smoking is prohibited in all public places and in front of schools, bus shelters, often in public parks, etc. Do not try to circumvent the law, in the USA it is not forgiven!
What's very local
Remember that it is against the law to drink alcohol on the street. Also, never forget that the police are not to be trifled with.
