Time difference Thailand
Compared with France, allow +5 hours in summer and +6 hours in winter (in fact, +7 hours GMT).
Night falls fairly early - around 6:30 pm - but the lively streets continue much later: the temperature is obviously more pleasant than during the day.
The sun rises very early: 5:30 or 6 am. This is the perfect time to stroll the streets and observe the morning's activity. The afternoon is ideal for visiting museums or temples, where you'll be sheltered from the sun.
Opening hours Thailand
To see / To do Thailand
Temples are generally open from dawn to dusk, with the exception of some historic temples. Museums are mostly open between 9am and 4pm, with one or sometimes two closing days a week. Some places have extended opening hours at weekends and during school vacations.
Enjoying yourself Thailand
Restaurant opening times are very varied. Traditional restaurants are open as in France, for lunch and dinner, often with a weekly closing day (or two). Small local restaurants are open for a single service eight hours a day. If the restaurant opens early in the morning, they close around 2pm. Those that open late in the morning provide service until around 7pm. And then there are those that open around 5pm and close late in the evening. Present in every Thai city, night markets are open from 5pm to 10pm . On the islands and in seaside resorts, beach restaurants and bars are generally open non-stop from morning to night.
Take a break Thailand
Cafés are open during the day, closing in the late afternoon in small towns and in the late evening in large cities. Bars generally open in the early afternoon and close between 1 and 5 a.m., depending on the authorization they have. Beach bars are open from morning to night.
(To) please yourself Thailand
Large stores and shopping malls are generally open from 10am to 8pm, every day of the week, especially in large cities and seaside resorts (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Phuket...). Smaller stores in smaller towns are more likely to be open between 8am and 6pm, and closed on Sundays.
Get out Thailand
Officially, bars in Bangkok must close at midnight, but not in all districts... In fact, the law requires establishments with a restaurant license to close at midnight, while those with a night bar license can close at 1 or 2 am. However, legislation varies from district to district. Complicated! Clubs fall into the latter category and must close at 2am. Too early? Don't worry, the Thais are resourceful and many get round the law...
