Guadeloupian writer Maryse Condé was awarded the "alternative" Nobel Prize for Literature at a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, on Friday. At 81 years old, it is a new recognition for the work of this committed artist, a major feather in Caribbean literature. "In her works, with a precise language[Maryse Condé] describes the ravages of
colonialism and the chaos of post-colonialism," said the prize organizers.
