Guadeloupe : Inauguration of the new runway of the airfield of La Désirade

The President of the Departmental Council, Guy Losbar, and the mayor of La Désirade, Loïc Tonton, have inaugurated the new runway of the airfield of La Désirade. An important investment with the aim of opening up the island, located at about ten kilometers from Grande-Terre.

The new 605-meter runway, built in hydraulic concrete, required 4 months of work for a total amount of 3.5 million euros, including 1.3 million financed by the State.
If it is to open up La Désirade, the dimensions and configuration of the runway remain limiting as to the aircraft that can use it, which can not exceed 7.5 tons, that is to say a capacity of 14 passengers. A condition that will not be a brake on the opening up or the development of the island, says Loïc Tonton, mayor of La Désirade, to the microphone of our colleagues of Guadeloupe la 1ère: "We did not put this runway in place so that things are not done, so that it is a use as in the past. No, it is really necessary that it brings an added value to the population in terms of mobility. But I've said it many times, it may be very easy to invest, but it's more difficult to energize. That's where we're expected and I know we'll be able to respond to that."
