Practical information : Accomodation Guadeloupe
Budget & Tips
In Guadeloupe, you can find good, inexpensive accommodation from €30-40 a night. For more comfort, decoration and services, expect to pay around €60 per night. Finally, if your budget allows, treat yourself to luxury accommodation from €120-130 per night.
Tour operators specializing in the destination offer unbeatable prices, with packages including airfare, accommodation and even half-board. In low season, some packages are almost identical to the airfares advertised by the airlines!
Accommodation providers offer very attractive rates on their websites. Don't hesitate to consult them before booking via online booking platforms that list all accommodation.
To be booked
The high season corresponds to the period when temperatures are lowest in France. Thus, the period from December to the end of April, with its very attractive climate, is the most popular: rates are the highest (with a peak for the end-of-year festivities). As one of France's top 10 favorite destinations, Guadeloupe is attracting more and more tourists: the one million visitor mark has even been passed for 2019. Good news for the archipelago. However, this means that tourists need to prepare their stay in advance in terms of accommodation and car hire. In particular, Guadeloupe welcomes a number of very loyal visitors (including retirees) who come back to the same accommodation every year, taking care to book their stay a year in advance.
What's very local
B&Bs and home-stay accommodation are becoming more and more common in the archipelago, and are increasingly popular with visitors looking for direct contact with the local population.
Whatever the type of accommodation, you will be required to pay a tourist tax per day and per adult, the amount of which varies according to the EPCI and the category of accommodation. This amount must appear separately on the bill from the accommodation provider, who then transfers it to the relevant local authority. The purpose of this tax is to help develop the local tourist offer.
For food lovers
It's true that breakfast in the West Indies has largely become Europeanized, but if you have the opportunity to try the traditional Guadeloupean breakfast or "didiko", which has come back into fashion in recent years, don't hesitate to give it a try. Some bars and hotels organize this type of service from time to time. On the menu, no pastries, cereals or buttered toast, but local vegetables, cucumber, cod, fierce avocado, scrambled eggs, omelettes or hard-boiled eggs (served hot), bacon, sausages, fresh fruit (watermelon, pineapple, melon).. Drinks include fresh fruit juices, Cytherean plums and redcurrants (in season in December), accompanied by infusions of country tea with medicinal herbs (cinnamon, mint-ginger, Indian wood...).
It's a hearty meal that allows Guadeloupeans, who get up at the first rays of sunshine to feed the animals or tend the garden before leaving for work, to make it through to the next meal.
Smokers
Hotel rooms are generally non-smoking. Some establishments specify that a fee will be charged for non-compliance.
