This cycling race crosses the island to the delight of the population, who love this event.
One of the archipelago's major sporting events, it draws the population in droves to the roadsides for a week. Some Guadeloupeans take their vacations especially to follow the race. The first Tour de Guadeloupe was held in 1948. Today, it attracts over a hundred riders from all over the world. It is a tour certified by the International Cycling Union.
