CHANTÉ NWEL
Go there and contact
Chanté Nwel marks the opening of Christmas preparations. The population sings Christmas carols, but to the local rhythm.
Chantés Nwel (Christmas carols) are held mainly in the evening, especially at weekends. This tradition, initiated by the commune of Vieux-Habitants, is now practiced throughout the archipelago. Everyone brings their own carol to sing along to the words of the carols, revisited to the rhythms of the West Indies. Numerous associations specialize in Chantés Nwel: the spectacle is a delight to behold. Institutions, town halls and private companies, as well as shopping malls, call on their services every year-end.
