Practical information : Move & Laze around Guadeloupe
Budget & Tips
Once you're here, many activities are free of charge. Lazing on the beach, which will take up a good part of your stay, is one of them, provided you don't use the equipment (deckchairs, parasols) installed by the water sports centers. If you wish to use them, you'll have to pay an hourly or daily rental fee. Many of the hiking trails can be completed without the need for a professional guide.
If you'd like to relax on a deckchair in the shade of a parasol, choose a beach restaurant that offers these facilities to its customers.
What's very local
Highly prized by the local population and much less well known than bathing in rivers and hot springs, the mud bath on Babin beach in Vieux-Bourg is renowned for its virtues. It makes the skin particularly soft and is also said to relieve rheumatism. So the activity of the people on this beach is not to bask in the sun, but to smear themselves with mud.
Your documents please
Exploratory diving requires a FFESSM license and a level card indicating the depth at which you can dive.
A boating license is required for motorboats over 4.5 kW. Sea scooters do not require a license, as long as they are supervised by a qualified instructor. Some rental companies have boats for which a license is not required, and which make for great cruising.
To be booked
Reservations are recommended to ensure that you will be able to enjoy diving, especially in high season, or to take a boat or scooter trip, enjoy a massage, or take a flight over the island's landscapes...
Main events
To find out what's on during your stay, take a look at our agenda and visit the website or Facebook page of the Comité du Tourisme des îles de Guadeloupe, both of which list the various events.
From the first Sunday in January, the festivities begin with the launch of Carnival, which in Guadeloupe lasts several weeks, with a number of highlights (parades in the communes, Ash Wednesday, Brulé Vaval...).
At Easter, families traditionally gather on the beaches. If you're looking for peace and quiet, steer clear of the beach and river at this time of year.
May: Traditional sailing tour.
July: Gwo Ka Festival, All Day In.
Early August: Cycling tour.
November (every 4 years): the Route du Rhum transatlantic sailing race. The next one will take place in 2026.
