National holiday: anniversary of the official foundation of the Republic of Bolivia proclaimed on August 6, 1825. Although the country was no longer under the yoke of the Spanish crown, it was decided to set the date of the country's foundation on the day of the Battle of Ayacucho. On that day, Marshal Sucre defeated the Spaniards in what was the last battle for independence. Official commemorations and military parades are held throughout the country.
