Now a national holiday, Dia San Juan (St. John's Day) was originally a pagan festival celebrating the harvest.
Considered a national holiday, Dia San Juan (St. John's Day) was originally a great pagan festival celebrating the harvest. Later Christianized, this religious event became the Summer Solstice, also known as the Festival of Light. Several religious and popular events take place in the township of Tibas, in the suburbs of San José. It is a kind of street fair with traditional music, dances and bullfights (without killing the animal).
