The Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as the Immaculate Conception, is a Christian feast celebrated on December 8 and decreed in 1854, according to which the Virgin Mary was exempt from original sin at her conception. Religious celebrations are held throughout the country. The most interesting festivities are held in Jesús María de San Mateo (province of Alajuela) and in La Rivera de Belén (province of Heredia).
