Nicaragua's leading conservative daily. Founded in 1926, it has had an eventful history, including the assassination in 1978 of Pedro Joaquín Chamorro Cardenal, the paper's director and son of the founder. In 1980, part of the editorial staff, disagreeing with the anti-Sandinista line, seceded and created El Nuevo Diario, a daily with a distinctly left-wing slant. Both newspapers have their own websites, where you can find local, regional and international news in Spanish.
