Practical information : Going out Estonia
Timetable
Most bars open around 6pm and close between 1am and 4am, depending on the type of establishment and the day of the week. Clubs and nightclubs open around 11pm-midnight and stay open until the early hours of the morning, around 5-6am, depending on how busy they are.
Budget & Tips
Going out doesn't have to be expensive in the Baltic States. Alcoholic beverages, in particular, are much cheaper than in France. Nevertheless, moderation is the order of the day.
To be booked
Apart from festival shows, some cinema (especially festival) and concert tickets can usually be booked online in advance.
Night transport
Major cities are generally well served by public transport. To find out about schedules, routes and night bus fares, contact your local tourist office. Often, the easiest and least expensive way to get around is to take a cab directly home, via apps like Bolt, for example.
Age restrictions
In the Baltic States, access to discotheques and the sale of alcohol is restricted to adults.
In Lithuania, it is forbidden to drink alcohol in the street: you risk a fine.
What's very local
In all three capitals , you can keep up to date with everything that's going on, including cultural events, thanks to Baltic Times (www.baltictimes.com). The free In Your Pocket guides (www.inyourpocket.com) will give you the latest information not only for the capitals, but also for other cities such as Tartu, Liepaja or Kaunas. The paper guide is very comprehensive, and the maps are extremely useful. It is available free of charge at the airport.
Smokers
All the Baltic countries have opted to ban smoking in public areas. Smoking areas are generally provided, and if you're on a terrace, make sure your smoke doesn't disturb your neighbor.
