Practical information : Going out Norway
Timetable
If you like to go out and party, bars close relatively late, mostly between midnight and 1am, while discos close around 3am.
Budget & Tips
Drink prices are generally high: count NOK 110 for a pint or glass of wine and around NOK 120 for a simple cocktail. There are happy hours from time to time, but not often.
To be booked
Reservations are generally required for concerts and festivals, and tickets are often purchased online.
Night transport
In Oslo, night buses run from 1am to 4am on Friday night and Saturday night. The Tram and T-Bane (subway) run until midnight or 1am. You can also use the Uber app or take a cab.
Age restrictions
Remember to carry your identity card with you when you go out, as you'll be asked for it if you look young. You have to be over 18 to enter a bar, and the same goes for entering a club. Often this limit rises to 20-23.
What's very local
Given the price of drinks, it's not necessarily rude for everyone to pay their share at the restaurant. To buy alcohol, go to the state-owned Vinmonopolet stores. Similarly, if you find yourself at an aperitif with Norwegians, it's every man for himself: you only consume the alcohol you bring home!
Smokers
We don't smoke in public places. Norwegians are more adept at snus, tobacco powder placed under the lip.
